El carácter reflexivo de la lingüística

Abstract

Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) considers language as a social semiotics and is thus based on a socio-semantic and discursive grammatics. Accordingly, throughout the development of SFL theory, Halliday and his followers have taken on board the richness of language ambiguity that enables the adaptation to new realities. Linguistic metalanguage is no exception, and Elsa Ghio, as an exceptional translator and promoter of Halliday’s work into Spanish, took into consideration this reflexive character of linguistics. In this paper we examine three cases. One concerns the recodification of the notions of Mode and Mood into Spanish, the second examines different representations for the related notions of experiential grammatical metaphor and nominalization, and the third discusses one same representation for somewhat different grammatical notions, that of Theme.
