Caracterización de los/as ingresantes a carreras de ciencias aplicadas de la Universidad Nacional de Río Negro

Abstract

The Research Project UNRN 40-C-581 analyzed the relationship with the university knowledge of students who started applied science careers in the Universidad Nacional de Río Negro (UNRN), Argentina. To this end, the first study developed consisted of the characterization of the new student to the 2018 cohort. In this article we will present some results of this survey, organized around four conceptual dimensions: i) social origin; ii) sociodemographic characteristics; iii) life course (work and family) and iv) educational trajectory. As a result, similar attributes are observed among of students of those different applied sciences careers: they are young, more men than women, single, without children, they don’t have important workloads, they have economic assistance from their fathers and mothers, who carry out works of complete dedication, coming, also mainly, from medium/high professional occupational categories. Notwithstanding this, students are mainly the first generation of university students. However, within this disciplinary branch, there are significant differences between careers. The gender, the working conditions of students and their age configure careers with remarkably different characteristics.
